Buying a Computer

Be sure you are comparing like systems when shopping for a computer. The kind of motherboard and processor, the amount of memory, the kind of graphics and audio cards all affect performance and thus price. A computer that sounds like a real bargain may not be such a great deal if you need to buy a faster processor or more memory or a better video card to make it capable of handling your needs.

Be aware that some computer manufacturers use proprietary parts, that is parts that can only be purchased from the manufacturer. If you should need to replace one of these parts, it can be much more expensive that a generic part. You may save some money when you buy the computer but end up spending a lot more if the computer ever has to be repaired.
